Haskè Ventures’ mission is to build and co-create companies from ideation to Series A financing. We aim to transform the start-up landscape in French-speaking West Africa. We identify and scale startups in this high-potential region, bridging the gap between “ideas” and growth-stage ventures. Haskè Ventures’ added-value model will support startups with seed capital and venture building services. Our pipeline is generated via an innovation model and a co-creation model. We are based in Dakar, Senegal.

We are looking for an experienced and ambitious Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our team in Dakar, and drive and implement business operations and transactions. A successful candidate will be a compassionate professional who is a stickler for detail and quality execution of all tasks. An integral part of the COO’s role is being able to juggle multiple unpredictable requests for support.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of Haskè Ventures and its various business units (IT, marketing, sales, finance, etc.),
• Ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are in place with regards to all operational elements encompassing HR, procurement, tendering processes, etc., to secure the best deals for the firm,
• Supervise payroll submission, filing of employment taxes and staff contributions to social security and pension, and ensure relevant payments are made on time,
• Liaise with legal and tax advisors to ensure completion of all tax schedules and further ensure that local and foreign taxes are complied with,
• Manage the planning and execution of annual financial audits and any other audits as may be required by country regulations,
• Manage the company’s financials (management & statutory accounts) while ensuring the company maintains efficient and effective financial control systems,
• Manage relationships with different external suppliers (including bankers) and third-party contractors (accountants, tax professionals, legal counsel, etc.) and ensure timely payment of their invoices (as well as reimbursement of staff expenses),
• Ensure the signing, filing and maintenance of all contracts and any statutory returns, Rigorously lead all operational goals (talent, logistics, finance, etc.), and manage implementation efforts and report progress.

Qualifications & Skills

• 10+ years of industry experience in business planning, strategy development, or senior operational role within a high-pressure start-up environment or venture capital firm, Bachelor in Business, Finance, Economics, strategy or equivalent. An advanced post graduate degree or MBA is preferred,
• Proven track record in building strong partnerships with product, engineering, design and leadership,
• Good leadership and communication skills,
• Comfortable working across multiple business units with competing priorities, Organised with strong attention to detail and an ability to balance detail with the big picture, Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal in English and French,
• Be a self-starter and comfortable working with little direction or oversight.
