GCERF Call for EOIs: Strengthening Community Resilience to Violent Extremism in Nigeria

The Nigeria Country Support Mechanism (CSM) of GCERF has announced a Call for Expressions of Interest from Nigerian organisations to become a Principal Recipient (PR) of funding from GCERF’s Core Funding Mechanism (CFM).

The Call for Expression of Interests is for initiatives to strengthen community resilience to violent extremism in Nigeria.

The GCERF Governing Board approved the pre-allocation of up to USD5 million over 3 years to support programmes in Nigeria that focus on:

  • the following specific demographic/population groups: young women and young men, local religious, traditional, and administrative leaders and authorities.
  • in the specific geographic locations of the North Central states of Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Plateau.
  • and addressing the following drivers/factors of radicalisation to violent extremism: lack of a sense of purpose including critical thinking and life skills, perceived marginalisation, poverty, inequality, unequal distribution of power and influence, lack of positive opportunities, and an attraction to perceived improvements in status and power and promises of financial gain by joining violent extremist groups.

Duration

Funding will be available for grants of up to three years in duration and commencing in 2019.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Prerequisites
    • Appropriate legal registration in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
    • Willingness to accept and fulfill the role of a Principal Recipient.
  • Capabilities
    • Established relationships and credibility with the communities and population groups identified in the Call, in the geographical areas also identified in the Call.
    • Experience and capacity in programme design and management, and project cycle management.
    • Experience and capacity in financial management and in the management of and accounting for international donor grant funding.
    • Experience and capacity in working within a Consortium and/or managing sub-recipients for those choosing to form a consortium.
    • Experience and capacity in community-level initiatives that address the local drivers of violent extremism and strengthen resilience against violent extremist agendas.
