Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program in Timor-Leste

The U.S. Embassy Dili is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Research Award 2023-2024.

The grant is for non-degree, post-doctoral research for Timorese citizens or Permanent Residents of Timor-Leste who work as university faculty, think tank researchers, and professionals conducting research to enhance academic and professional expertise in the United States in collaboration with American academics and/or field experts.

The Fulbright award allows recipients to pursue a particular field of study and develop leadership that promotes better understanding between the United States and Timor-Leste. Research will be conducted for a duration of 3-5 months starting in January 2024. The award will cover round trip international airfare, settling in and living expenses, and books and resource allowance.

Eligibility Criteria

Timorese Citizens or Timor-Leste Permanent Residents.
U.S. citizens and permanent residents are NOT eligible for the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Program.
Preference given to full-time lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors, or full professors at universities in Timor-Leste. Grantees are expected to continue to teach in Timor-Leste upon their completion of the program.
Possess a doctoral degree or equivalent professional training or experience at the time of application.
Have sufficient proficiency in the English language to engage in U.S. academia and to carry out the proposed project.
