Position: Architect/Urban Planner, World Bank Senegal Universal Accessibility Project
Location: Dakar, Senegal

Job Description: Forcier seeks an experienced Architect for an anticipated World Bank Universal Accessibility Project to be implemented in Senegal. The following is the anticipated scope of work for the Architect/Urban Planner
Responsibilities
- Produce and deploy awareness-enhancing Universal Accessibility (UA) materials in French and English such as MS PowerPoint slide decks, infographics or other visual materials explaining the concept of UA, its application and good practices
- Prepare workshop materials with two main purposes: introduce the basic concept and application of UA and raise awareness about its importance as inclusive spatial planning; and identify the client’s needs, challenges and priorities in implementing UA
- Conduct one workshop in Dakar, Senegal to present the visual UA material
- Engage key stakeholders, including Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) and collect data through in-person interviews and focus group discussions or workshops to understand local UA demand and critical gaps advancing it and produce a summary report in French and English
- Review and report on relevant laws and regulations governing and guiding urban housing and neighbourhood development in Senegal, identify entry points for UA and make recommendations to improve the existing regulatory environment in promoting UA principles.
Requirements
Education requirements
Bachelor or Master’s degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning or related fields
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in architecture and urban design projects
- Knowledge in applying universal design / accessibility and urban design projects
- Experience in producing design guidelines
- Experience in advising the development of housing policy and regulations is desirable especially if related to universal accessibility
- Experience in advising governments and professional bodies is an advantage
