FHI 360: DREAMS – Community Mobilization and Norms Change Program

FHI 360 is seeking applications from South African non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for grants in support of a one-year DREAMS: Community Mobilization and Norms Change program to be implemented in Region D of the City of Johannesburg district, in Gauteng Province.

This initiative is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), as part of the Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored, and Safe girls (DREAMS) program and managed by FHI 360.

The goal of this initiative is to increase community responsiveness to reduce gender based violence (GBV) and HIV risk amongst Adolescent Girls and Yong Women (AGYW) through community mobilization and strong service provision and linkages.

Objectives

The following objectives will contribute to achieving the goal of this initiative:

  • Strengthen the capacity of leaders and advocates to plan and carry out community-level actions to promote equitable gender norms, reduce HIV risk, eliminate gender-based violence (GBV).
  • Strengthen communities within the district of City of Johannesburg Region D to promote and sustain gender equality, prevent gender based violence and HIV among AGYW though implementation of Stepping Stones evidence-based curriculum.
  • To proactively promote access to HIV testing services and to support Stepping Stones participants in accessing appropriate post GBV services.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Only applications from bonafide South African organizations will be considered.
  • For purpose of this APS and “indigenous South African organization” is defined as an organization:
    • Registered and incorporate under laws of the Republic of South Africa.
    • Based and conducts its business within borders of Republic of South Africa.
    • With majority of its board of directors and decision-making structures resident in the Republic of South Africa.
    • The local organizations should have full autonomy in programmatic operations.
  • The applicant should have experience in working to promote social justice, promote gender equality, strengthen community responsiveness to HIV, and / or promote social and behavior change communication programming and / or community-based post GBV care and referrals / linkages to GBV, HIV/AIDS and SRH services.
  • The applicant may be a registered non-profit organization operating ad a community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, or civil society organizations, etc.
  • Organizations that already have a presence or are currently working in any / all of the targeted geographical areas and known in the communities.
