ETH Zurich launches COVID-19 Call for Projects Grants with Asia

The Leading House Asia, ETH Zurich launched a Special COVID-19 Call for Projects Grants in order to support the collective effort to better understand the virus as well as its numerous implications, and prepare for society’s future.

The current Special COVID-19 Call for Project Grants awards project funding for research questions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The current call comprises all scientific fields and is not limited to epidemiological or medical studies. However, the research projects have to be collaborative projects between researchers based in Switzerland and Asia.

The current special COVID-19 call is aimed at both new and existing collaborations between Switzerland-based researchers and scientists from universities or research institutes in China (incl. Hong Kong and Taiwan), Japan, South Korea and the ASEAN Region (incl. Singapore). The goal of the grant call is to allow Switzerland-based researchers and their partners in Asia to collaborate on a research project on the COVID-19 virus itself, or on any of its implications. The wide scope is meant to comprise as many research fields as possible, and to foster an impactful project as well as a long-term partnership.
Funding Information

Grant sum: max. 25,000 CHF;
Project duration: up to 12 months.
Eligibility Criteria

The call is open to all scientific disciplines and fields of research. The Leading House Asia strongly encourages research project proposals in social sciences and humanities.
All senior scientists of Swiss federal and cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences and universities of teacher education, as well as public research institutions, are eligible to apply. Research partners must be scientists affiliated with a university or a public research institute from one of the partner countries.
Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be assessed by an evaluation panel. The evaluation is based on the following criteria:

Scientific and technological merit of the anticipated outcomes;
Relevance and innovativeness of the topic and link to the COVID-19 pandemic;
Potential for long-term collaboration and follow-up activities;
Originality and feasibility of the proposed activity;
Expertise and complementarities of the partner laboratory/institute and the applicant;
Contributions by all involved partners, including funding and in-kind contributions;
Promotion of young and female researchers.
