Engaging Youth in India on Menstrual Health through Digital Platforms

The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), a United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) hosted entity, is committed to amplifying the movement around menstrual health in India and seeks a partner entity with a proven record in engaging youth on these topics using digital platforms and in-person events in India.

This collaboration will run over a two-year period (2019-2020), in line with WSSCC’s current Strategic Plan (2017-2020).

The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) is a global multi-stakeholder partnership organization that works to improve and save the lives of poor people. Founded in 1990, WSSCC’s mission is to ensure sustainable sanitation, better hygiene and safe drinking water for all people, especially the poorest and most marginalized members of society in developing countries.

Objectives

The main objectives of the grant support activities will be to:

  • Conduct a baseline survey to determine current perspectives and awareness of Menstrual Health and related issues in India.
  • Use a customizable digital platform to engage youth in India on Menstrual Health and related issues.
  • Host at least (2) In-person events at both local/state level and at least (1) national level event to engage youth, government, private sector, UN, NGOs, faith groups, etc.
  • Ensure regular monitoring and reporting of results, including number of articles published, number of engaged youth in India on these topics, etc.
  • Employ a proven methodology for activating youth around these topics, including but not limited to user-generated content, showcasing work of youth activists, competitions, etc.

Deliverables

  • Baseline survey to determine current perspectives and awareness of Menstrual Health and related issues in India.
  • Build/Customize a digital platform to engage youth in India.
  • Host at least (2) In-person events at both local/state level and at least (1) national level event to engage youth, government, private sector, UN, NGOs, faith groups, etc.
  • Regular monitoring of results and mid-term/final reports.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Only applications from entities registered in India will be accepted.
  • Minimum requirements/qualifications:
    • Expertise in engaging youth through digital platforms.
    • Administrative capacity of at least 10 staff.
    • Entity has been established for at least 5 years.
    • Experience in social and/or development issues.
  • Other critical considerations:
    • Past performance working with development partners (e.g. international NGOs) will be strongly considered when selecting most suitable proposal.
    • Expertise using a mixture of in-person and virtual methods of engaging youth will be strongly considered when selecting the most suitable proposal.
