Enabling Accessibility Fund: Helping to Build an Accessible Canada

Applications are open for The Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF) which is looking for dynamic youth who want to demonstrate leadership and their commitment to their communities by volunteering their time to build a more accessible Canada.

The EAF youth innovation component provides an opportunity for youth to have a direct impact in the lives of people with disabilities by addressing accessibility barriers in public spaces or workplaces within their community or surrounding communities. Through this work, youth create greater awareness about accessibility needs and the EAF program across Canada, as well as encourage organizations to apply for funding to address existing accessibility barriers making a more inclusive and accessible Canada possible.

As a youth leader they challenge applicants to:

  • Identify accessibility barriers that people with disabilities face every day in your community
  • Take charge and approach organizations in your community with existing accessibility barriers and encourage them to apply for funding under the EAF youth innovation component
  • Assist an organization in developing and submitting a project proposal and
  • Make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities

Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible youth
    • A person between 15 and 30 years of age inclusively
    • A person legally entitled to work in Canada
    • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada
  • The following organizations are eligible to apply under the EAF youth innovation component:
    • Not-for-profit organizations (including social enterprises)
    • Small businesses (maximum 99 full-time equivalent employees)
    • Small municipalities (with a population under 125,000 as per census data)
    • Indigenous organizations (including band councils, tribal councils and self-government entities) and
    • Territorial governments
