The Embassy of Canada in Venezuela is seeking applications for its Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (FCIL) which is an apolitical program created by the Canadian government around the world, in order to encourage the implementation of projects that aim to increase the democratic conditions and quality of life of the most vulnerable sectors of the country.

The FCIL in Venezuela is an opportunity for cooperation through which the Government of Canada reaffirms its commitment to work with Venezuelan civil society.

Social Investment Areas

Proposals for local intervention or social research that address the following areas of action will be prioritized:

  • Human development: projects that allow generating the conditions to help people who are in a state of vulnerability in the areas of health, nutrition and migration. They will be considered initiatives that offer not only assistance but also activities that allow the problem to be addressed in a sustainable manner.
  • Civil society: projects that are aimed at strengthening the capacities of human rights organizations of Venezuelan civil society at times of high complexity.
  • Democracy: projects that promote participation in public life and the promotion of issues such as access to justice, government transparency and access to information.

Eligible Organisations

  • Local social development, community and non-profit organizations
  • Local academic institutions working on local projects
  • International, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional institutions, organizations and agencies working in local development activities
  • Institutions or municipal, regional or national government agencies that work on local projects
  • Canadian non-governmental and non-profit organizations working in development activities.

Evaluation Criteria

  • Vision of the future: proposals must have a long-term view, achieving impacts subsequent to the completion of financing and the accompaniment of the organization towards the target audience.
  • Attend to the structural: initiatives must have gone through a strategic analysis of the problem of interest and the proposal must address, within the capacity of the organization, the causes that produce the identified needs.
  • Look at the development: the initiative should seek to contribute to developing capacities in the recipients to emerge from the logic of poverty and inequality.
