Embassy of Canada announces Canada Fund for Local Initiatives in Jordan

The Embassy of Canada in Jordan has currently launched its annual call for proposals for the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

The CFLI is a program designed to support small-scale, high-impact projects in developing countries, which align with Global Affairs Canada’s thematic priority areas for engagement.
The program is directed at projects conceived and designed predominantly by local partners. Projects are selected and approved by the relevant Canadian embassy or high commission. The CFLI also serves to support positive bilateral relations between Canada and recipient countries and their civil societies, by deepening contacts and supporting local endeavours.

Thematic Priorities
All projects must align with at least one of the following CFLI thematic priorities:

Championing human rights, inclusive and accountable governance, democracy and fundamental freedoms, peaceful pluralism and respect for diversity, including the following specific sub-themes:
Advance women’s leadership and decision making in governance and public sector management at all levels.
Strengthen legal systems and promote reforms that eliminate all forms of discrimination against women, girls and other marginalized groups.
Support citizen participation, including through innovative and technology-enabled means, to promote ownership and sustainability in social, political and economic processes.
Strengthen civil society and increase democratic political participation, including that of women, youth and marginalized groups; create and maintain, in law and in practice, a safe and enabling environment for civil society and the media (including women’s organizations and women’s rights defenders).
Respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms—including freedom of religion or belief, of expression, of peaceful assembly and of association—and a contribution to the elimination of discrimination, prejudice, racism, intolerance and persecution.
Growth that works for everyone, including women’s economic rights, decent jobs and entrepreneurship, investing in the poorest and most vulnerable, and safeguarding economic gains, including specifically:
Advancing women’s economic rights and leadership.
Funding Information
The average CFLI contribution is $25,000 to $40,000 Canadian Dollars (CAD$100,000 is the maximum allocation amount for a project eligible under CFLI).
All projects must be completed between the date of signature of the Contribution Agreement and Feb 14, 2021.
Two-year programming: Projects spanning two fiscal years (April 2020 to March 2022) may be permitted depending on the project objectives and the complexity of activities.

Eligibility Criteria
Eligible recipients include:

Local, national or community-based organization (non-governmental and not-for-profit);
Local municipal, regional or national government institution or agency of the recipient country;
Local academic institution;
Canadian organization (non-governmental or not-for-profit) that is working on local development activities;
International or regional organization (non-governmental or not-for-profit) that is working on local development activities;
The majority of CFLI funding is to be directed toward local civil society organizations (including non-governmental organizations) and other institutions working at the local level. Other entities, such as international, intergovernmental, multilateral and regional organizations may be eligible for funding, provided they are working with local partners and on local projects that are consistent with the objectives of the CFLI. Similarly, municipal, regional and national government institutions may receive funding, provided that their projects are essentially local in nature. The CFLI is always looking to fund innovative projects that deliver measurable results.
