This Call for Proposals seeks to provide funding for East African civil society organizations (CSOs), in particular non-governmental organizations (NGOs), at national, local and/or community level, working in the area of anti-corruption.

The grant scheme targets East Africa CSOs, namely those from Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Grant funding under this Call for Proposals shall be provided to projects that:

  • Increase cooperation between civil society, the public and governments, and other relevant stakeholders on UNCAC and its implementation; and,
  • Increase awareness of public procurement and whistleblower protection for UNCAC implementation.

The specific undertaking of the grants project will not be for UNODC to plan or determine, rather be the conception of CSOs. The type of activities which would be considered, but do not constitute an exhaustive list, include:

  • Development and/or implementation of alternative systems for reporting of misconduct (e.g. mobile app., telephone line or other innovative use of technology)
  • Direct lobbying/advocacy of advanced legislation
  • Coordinated media outreach to increase public awareness
  • Filling gaps where there is required monitoring in the public procurement and whistleblower protection processes

While the value of publications in various forms on each of the two anti-corruption themes is valuable and necessary, it is the intention not to sponsor such projects in this call for applications.
