DHHS-NIH: Modeling and Simulation to Optimize HIV Prevention Research

DHHS-NIH: Modeling and Simulation to Optimize HIV Prevention Research

Deadline: 13 November 2018

The Department of Health and Human Services National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking applications for its Modeling and Simulation to Optimize HIV Prevention Research to support the development and validation of modeling and simulation methods and related tools to examine HIV transmission dynamics, make epidemic projections, and estimate the impact of HIV treatment and prevention.

Modeling and simulation have proven to be useful in the study of many infectious diseases, including HIV. The NIH funded MIDAS (Models of Infectious Disease Agent Study) program has led to recommendations for pandemic flu preparedness and continues to guide ongoing flu research. These methods have also been used to simulate the community-level impact of combination HIV prevention strategies, considering all available information on sexual network characteristics, mixing within and between communities, coverage levels for different prevention modalities, and other variables.

Funding Information

Application budgets are limited to $400,000 per year in direct costs.
