An announcement of the grant program has been made by The Deptford Challenge Trust (DCT) is a grantmaking charitable trust that aims to improve the quality of life for people who live and work in a defined area of Lewisham (covering Deptford and parts of New Cross). The Trust’s grantmaking programmes are managed by The London Community Foundation.

Early Grant Information for NGOs

The ethos of the Open Programme is to support small and new organizations through the provision of ‘seedcorn’ funding as well as encourage the strategic development of the DCT area and the organizations working within it.

USD $250,000 to $2 million funding available for each selected partner to address Covid-19 impact in select countries

Funding provided through capital support for community development projects

Education and skills – helping those who need extra support to either stay in education or return to it later in life;
Community cohesion and social inclusion – celebrating the diversity of the DCT area and welcoming new arrivals into the community.
Health & wellbeing – improving the wellbeing of all residents, in particular those with a physical disability, learning difficulty or mental health problem;
Strengthening the DCT area – building capacity and connecting local organizations, creating a stronger, more resilient voluntary and community sector.
Funding Information

Grants of between £1,000 and £30,000 are available.

Constituted community and resident groups;
Registered charities;
Companies limited by guarantee;
Community Interest Companies (CICs) Limited by Guarantee- not Limited by Shares;
Charitable Incorporated Organizations (C10s).
Applicants must have:
A governing document (e.g. a constitution or memorandum & articles of association).
A minimum of 3 unrelated Directors / Trustees / Management Committee members.
A bank account in the name of the group, with at least two unrelated signatories.
Annual Accounts, or for smaller groups, an Income and Expenditure Sheet for the most recent financial period. If a group is new with no previous income they will need to provide an Income & Expenditure forecast and a recent bank statement.
A safeguarding policy for working with children and young people (under 18) and/or vulnerable adults (if relevant). Guidance to develop a policy is available on their website if you do not currently have one.
Eligibility Criteria

Applications must meet the following criteria:

Proposed activities must benefit residents of the DCT area (please refer to the mao).
Projects based outside of the area must have a clear recruitment plan for engaging residents of the DCT area.
Proposals must respond to identified local need.
Applicants must demonstrate how the proposed work meets a gap in provision and complements existing services.
Where activities are to benefit particular sections of the community, applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have the support, confidence and involvement of the people concerned.
Priority will be given to:
Organizations based within the DCT area will be given priority but organizations based outside of Deptford may apply if they can demonstrate prior experience of working with the community within the DCT area.
Partnership applications, i.e. from more than one organization working together. In this instance, the organization that applies will be the lead organization, and will be accountable for any grant awarded.
Projects which will have long-term impact/legacy within the DCT area.
