The Lauren Townsend Memorial Wildlife Fund was established in 1999 by the family of Lauren Townsend, a vibrant and inspiring young woman who was a class valedictorian and co-captain of the girls’ volleyball team at Columbine High School. Lauren was one of 13 victims killed in the shootings on April 20, 1999.

The Denver Foundation is the largest and most experienced community foundation in the Rocky Mountain West. For more than 90 years, Denver residents have trusted the Foundation to steward charitable funds to meet today’s needs and tomorrow’s opportunities. It’s a growing legacy and a community-wide effort to build a better future for everyone. At The Denver Foundation, they have been taking care of the future since 1925.

Grants from the fund range from $500 – $5,000 and the fund typically awards a total of $15,000 – $20,000 annually.

Applications are open to organizations that meet the below criteria. Smaller nonprofit organizations are particularly encouraged to apply:
Organizations with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.
Organizations with a focus on animal welfare or wildlife preservation.
Organizations seeking funding for a specific project or program.
Programs operating in the United States.
The fund does not award grants for:
Administrative expenses (including salaries and other general operating costs).
Lobbying activities.
Note: If in the last three years you have been awarded two or more grants from the Lauren Townsend Memorial Wildlife Fund, you are not eligible for funding this year. You are welcome to reapply in the next year’s funding cycle.
