Creative New Zealand launches Call for Applications for Toi Ake Fund

Creative New Zealand has launched a call for applications for the Toi Ake Fund.

1000 new grants and donors
The Toi Ake Fund is an initiative tailored to iwi, hapu, whakapapa-based ropu and matawaka to cultivate and retain heritage nga toi Maori (Maori arts) and foster their distinctive arts and cultural practices.

Toi Ake projects supported include:

heritage arts such as nga mahi a Te Whare Pora
wananga that pass on matauranga and skills of karanga, whaikorero, karakia, moteatea, pao and whakapapa recitation
contemporary arts projects and the artworks of new wharenui.
Funding Information

Funding requests can be for projects between $10,000–$75,000.
Outcomes

To receive funding from Creative New Zealand, your project must achieve one of the long term goals, which is called Strategic Outcomes.
They also want to support projects that achieve the outcomes of our two cultural strategies: Te Hā o ngā Toi – Māori Arts Strategy 2019-2024 and The Pacific Arts Strategy 2018 – 2023.
In addition, each funding programme has its own programme purposes and your project needs to achieve one of these purposes: Strategic outcomes, Arts Grants programme purposes, Te Hā o ngā Toi – Māori Arts Strategy 2019 – 2024, The Pacific Arts Strategy 2018 – 2023
Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Toi Ake Fund, you must be:
Tangata Whenua Maori, or your proposed project must be managed or directed by Maori
a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident (each individual).
New Zealand-based organizations can apply but the organisation must be Maori-led. If an organization is applying for funding on behalf of an individual, that person must also be Maori.
International arts organizations can apply but the application must show direct benefit to New Zealand arts.
To be eligible for Creative New Zealand funding:
Your project or activities must directly benefit New Zealand arts, artists or practitioners.
You must have a track record of experience and success — this means you must have:
recognition from peers or experts
achieved a degree of critical or sales success
specialised training or practical experience.
