Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham announces Phase 3 Relief and Recovery Grants

Deadline: 30-Oct-20

The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham is inviting eligible applicants for its Phase 3 Relief and Recovery Grants that will focus on two categories: Programs and Services to Meet Critical Needs and Operational Support.

Cash Grants for NGOs to improve access to justice around the world
Conservation Grants to research and generate local solutions to environmental problems
Foundation Grants of up to € 100,000 to increase people’s resilience to disasters
Innovative grants to address poverty issues by helping communities reduce violence, promote peace and recover from crises
Phase 3 will again prioritize support for groups disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, including low-income residents, displaced workers, essential workers, residents with greater health risks, communities of colour, immigrant populations, people with disabilities, people experiencing homelessness, and people at risk of intimate partner violence.

Funding Categories

Phase 3 COVID-19 Response will focus on two categories of grant opportunities. Organizations can apply for a Critical Needs grant OR an Operational Support grant.

Programs and Services to Meet Critical Needs – up to $50,000
Funding priorities:
Preventing and mitigating the impacts of job and income loss;
Challenges with meeting basic living expenses.
These were identified as critical community needs as the economic effects of the COVID-19 crisis settle in. Other COVID-related needs will also be considered for this pool of funding.
Operational Support for Organizations – up to $25,000
The findings show most local organizations have:
had to significantly modify services to meet community needs during the COVID-19 crisis;
are facing large financial shortfalls through the end of 2020.
Operational Support grants will provide flexible support to help nonprofits bridge this crisis and continue providing vital community services.
Eligibility Criteria

The Foundation will also continue to give some priority to these types of organizations:

Smaller organizations (under $100,000 annual revenue), which our findings show play important roles in crisis response but face greater challenges with funding and operational adaptation.
Organizations led by people of colour – given the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on African-Americans and other people of colour and the importance of leadership that reflects and is rooted in impacted communities, will have an increased focus on organizations in the region led by people of colour.
