The Columbia Basin Trust is inviting applications for its Small Environment Grants to fund community-initiated and community-supported projects in the areas of ecosystems, water and environmental education.

Project Categories

The Trust welcomes project ideas in each of the project categories that address climate resilience.

Ecosystems Projects:
Enhance or conserve ecosystems and/or species of conservation concern.
Reduce the threat of significant invasive species to terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
Ecosystem related research projects that contribute to ecosystem conservation and/or enhancement.
Water Projects:
Support the protection, enhancement or restoration of water resources that are important for species and/or ecosystems of conservation concern.
Carry out water quality and/or quantity research that is scientifically sound and will contribute knowledge to the management of water resources for the benefit of ecosystems, communities and watershed stakeholders.
Environmental Education Projects:
Provide education to Basin residents that helps develop an understanding and appreciation of the natural world and motivates ecologically informed decisions and actions.

If the project requires $5,000 or less, applicants can apply for a small Environment Grant.
Eligibility Criteria

Eligible applicants include registered non-profits, First Nations communities and local governments from the Columbia Basin Trust region.
Businesses may be considered depending on the project and its broad community impact. Business applicants must demonstrate partnerships with community-based organizations in the design and delivery of their proposed project.
The project should demonstrate that it will benefit the Basin and that the primary beneficiary is not the applicant or solely the members of a membership-based organization.
Applicants operating outside the Basin must partner with community-based organizations in the Basin to be eligible.
