The City of Oakland is seeking applications for its Organizational Assistance Program, a two-year program that supports Oakland-based 501(c)3 NONPROFIT ARTS organizations producing ongoing art and cultural activities that may include but are not limited to, performances in dance, music or theater, classes, and workshops, and exhibits, for the benefit of the community.

Funding Information

Arts organizations that have received Cultural Funding awards in two of the past four years are eligible to apply in the Organizational Assistance category for general operating support grants up to $35,000.

In addition to requesting funds for programs that meet the Cultural Funding Program goals and objectives, applicants must meet the following requirements:
Organizations must be an Oakland-based art/cultural nonprofit meeting the following criteria:
Be a registered nonprofit with the State of California and have IRS 501(c)3 status with an Oakland address;
Have a functioning Board of Directors;
Have business offices located in Oakland and letterhead with an Oakland business address (P.O. Boxes alone are not acceptable) and phone number. Proof of residency is required and may be satisfied by submitting a copy of one of the following:
Utility bill;
Bank Statement;
Rental Agreement
Comply with federal regulations pertaining to federal grant recipients by meeting the provisions of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1963; Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; Americans with Disabilities Act and Age Discrimination Act of 1975;
Able to demonstrate active arts/cultural programming in Oakland for no less than five years;
Annually conduct a season of Oakland performances, classes, and/or other arts programs that serve the citizens of Oakland;
Organization must be primary arts/culture provider as evidenced by its mission and programs;
Organization must have received funding from the Cultural Funding Program for at least two of the last four years in any of the following categories: Organizational Assistance, Strategic Development Support, Neighborhood Voices (Organizations), Organization Project Support, or Art in the Schools.
The Organizational Assistance grant can support only a portion of an organization’s general operating budget.
Organizations are required to match the City’s grant on a cash basis at a minimum of 1:1 (i.e., for every dollar of the City’s award, the recipient organization must secure an additional dollar.)
Other Cultural Funding Program grant funds may not be used to meet the match, nor may in-kind contributions.
Only one application to the Organizational Assistance category is allowed annually per organization.
Eligible Expenses:
Artistic and administrative personnel salaries, wages, and/or fees
Office, rehearsal or necessary rental space
General office supplies and expense
Marketing, promotion and publicity expenses
Production expenses
Ineligible

Ineligible Expenses:

Activities occurring outside of Oakland
Out-of-state travel
Major equipment purchases ($750 and above)
Capital construction and/or acquisitions
Activities with a political or religious purpose
