The Global Environment & Technology Foundation (GETF) and The Coca-Cola Foundation in Mexico recently launched a call for proposals for water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects for several regions in Mexico.

In response to this need in multiple regions of the country, The Coca-Cola Foundation and Fundación CocaCola México in alliance with the Global Environmental Technology Foundation (GETF) designed and launched a program called Aliados por el Agua , to contribute to increasing access to water , sanitation and hygiene (WASH), which has been executing more than 12 projects since 2021, hand in hand with civil society organizations and seeking the participation of local governments and communities organized in populations with great need for the resource.

Aliados por el Agua aims to improve access to water for one million people in Mexico by the end of 2030. This national program will support Industria Mexicana de Coca-Cola’s 2030 community water resilience strategy. In the first phase of the program, Aliados por el Agua seeks to improve access to water for 500,000 people by the end of 2025 through projects in various states of the country.

Goal By the year 2030, ALIADOS POR EL AGUA seeks to have measurably improved the lives of one million people through access to water, sanitation and hygiene services.
By 2023, ALIADOS POR EL AGUA will be focused on the identification and implementation of projects in various locations in Mexico, including Chiapas, Coahuila, Durango, State of Mexico, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Michoacán, Morelos, Nuevo León, Oaxaca, Querétaro, Sinaloa and San Luis Potosí , with the aim of providing water, sanitation and hygiene services to 500,000 people in 2025 in three phases.
Phase 1: 150,000 people by December 2023
Stage 2: 150,000 people by December 2024
Stage 3: 200,000 people by December 2025
priorities
Through this request for proposals, ALIADOS POR EL AGUA seeks to identify projects that meet one or more of the objectives of ALIADOS POR EL AGUA in the target geographic areas, seeking in particular:
Projects with scaling opportunities. ALIADOS POR EL AGUA will prioritize projects that impact between 10,000 and 50,000 people, through efficient use of resources, incorporation of other donors, and collaboration with other institutions. ALIADOS POR EL AGUA implementing partners will need to attract additional co-financing and/or use ALIADOS POR EL AGUA funds as complementary support to expand existing or complementary activities. During the evaluation process, ALIADOS POR EL AGUA will prioritize the proposals that offer the greatest impact at scale within the required budget range.
Projects that emphasize, within their possibilities, joint work with local, state and national governments, as well as with other stakeholders throughout the life of the project and afterwards.
Projects that can realistically be completed by December 2023.
Eligibility Criteria
All bidders must meet the following criteria:
Organizations legally constituted and registered as legal entities in Mexico (preferred) or that subcontract such entities;
Bidders can be non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community organizations (CBOs), civil society organizations (CSOs), social enterprises (B companies).
Applicants clearly demonstrate the need to be addressed.
The proposal outlines key and necessary activities to achieve the goals.
Applicants demonstrate capabilities, prove experience and previous work on WASH issues and in the communities in which the proposal will be made.
It must be verified that there are other sources of financing in addition to those requested, at least 50% of the total cost of the project.
Administrative costs do not exceed 10% of the requested budget and human capital costs do not exceed 30%.
A 5% must be included for communication issues aligned with the requirements of the Coca-Cola Mexico Foundation and GETF.
