Call for Freelance Journalists in Latin America and the Caribbean

 

The International Center for Journalists -ICFJ- in alliance with CONNECTAS open this call aimed at freelance journalists or journalists working with media outlets in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The CONNECTAS is looking for the best journalistic projects in the region!

What would you get?

Editorial alliance: Selected proposals will be developed with CONNECTAS under an Editorial alliance. You will receive personalized support from an editor of Editorial Board, who will assist you from the beginning of the project until the story is published.
Resources: If your proposal is selected, you will receive funds to cover research expenses and professional expenses.
Regional Level Dissemination: Your work will be published in CONNECTAS, the main platform in the promotion of collaborative journalism in Latin America and in Informative Community’s allied media.
Journalistic Community: Once the project has been published, participants may be part of CONNECTAS’ Journalistic Community, made up of colleagues from all Latin America and the Caribbean.
Conditions

View and receiving grant information
Admitted proposals will have full editorial freedom regarding the story.
Proposals can be submitted individually or as a team.
Proposals that have previous reporting work and knowledge on the topic, as well as those that suggest a component of collaboration among journalists, will be specially considered.
Selected proposals will accept the terms of republishing of the research material, editorial accompaniment, safety conditions to follow-up on topics and preparations for final dissemination.
Budgets must include resources for biosecurity elements intended to protect the team working on the story.
Publications must include audiovisual and multimedia elements or storytelling developed by the team.
Funding Information

Funds will be allocated according to the project’s budget and scope, as per the following categories:
National impact: up to US$ 3,000
Two or more countries: up to US$ 4,500
A five-month term to develop the story will begin from the moment of acceptance of the project, while administrative arrangements for the first payment take place.
The amount for each project, as per the budget, will be divided in three equal payments. The first one is to be delivered at the moment of acceptance, the second when turning in progress and the last one once it is published.
Costs of banking transactions will be assumed by the beneficiary.
Requirements

Being a freelance journalist or in media outlets with minimum four years’ experience.
The submitted application must include links to recent published stories, preferably research, in-depth work or reports.
The proposal must be written in Spanish or English.
Submitted applications will only be accepted via the platform of Matrix CONNECTAS.
Applicants cannot have an ongoing scholarship with the ICFJ or CONNECTAS.
