Call for Applications: Tesco Future Farmer Foundation Program

Tesco is currently seeking applications for its programme that helps to develop a thriving and dynamic farming industry and to meet one of its key aims of helping young people. Two hundred young farmers from around the UK & Ireland will have attended the programme to develop their future in their amazingly diverse farming and aquaculture industry.
The programme has been shaped from the very start by asking young farmers what they need to build their careers. They told us they wanted to build their business skills, to learn more about today’s fast moving supply chains and to find out from industry experts what they need to know to be successful. The programme meets these needs and delivers a whole lot more.
Benefits
- At five, two day workshops applicant will work on business challenges and problems with applicant’s fellow future farmers. It bring in experts from farming, business, media and marketing to help applicant develop their personal and business skills. Each workshop has a theme and is jam packed with real life problems. They replicate the workshops in both the North and South of the country.
- Workshop 1: Team building and programme introduction
- Workshop 2: Business planning and finance
- Workshop 3: Obtaining land, succession planning and sustainability
- Workshop 4: Marketing and communication skills
- Workshop 5: Leadership and final presentations
- Applicants can access training from leading training companies across the UK.
- Supply chain visits are not just factory or farm tours. Applicant will have the opportunity to meet business leaders, commercial and marketing teams, production experts, and consider new product development. Applicant also have the opportunity to find out how a leading global retailer, like Tesco, works with its supply chain partners to meet the needs of its customers.
- Applicants will have the opportunity to take a placement for a period of a week to a month working in a leading food business in the UK or overseas, really getting under the skin of today’s supply chain.
Eligibility Criteria
- Aged 20-35 years old on the 1st October 2018
- Resident in the UK or Ireland
- Not in full time education during the programme period
- Involved in farming, aquaculture and/or food
- Able to participate fully in the programme – allow for a commitment of approximately 2 days per month on average (although this is flexible to allow for busy times in the farming year)
