Mali, West AfricaReference Number: 426 2909 MHU Job Description:Provide safe, efficient and cost-effective operational control of the Underground Mining section in accordance with legal requirements and company objectives.  Provide leadership and operational direction to the area work teams, ensuring resources, capacity and capability are aligned to the work plans.  Responsibility for performance reporting and documentation; identify, report on and recommend corrections of variance to plan / process; drive and monitor continuous improvement focused on safety, value and cost reduction. Responsibility for sustaining value and developing the competencies of the National workforce. Responsibilities:Zero harm to personnel, business partners, the environment and impacted communitiesSupport share holder and corporate value through demonstrated achievement toward the strategic objectives of less than $750/oz AISC and $225 million total costs for 300koz per annum gold productionRole model and effect sustainable improvement in supervisory and workforce practices to deliver on current and future business needsDriving operational discipline in alignment with business priorities and expectations through clearly defining what is expected, ensuring understanding of expectations, verifying that expectations are delivered on and leading by exampleCollaborate with peers and management in identifying and pursuing cross discipline initiatives to deliver on business needsInstill a no-nonsense high-performance culture of operational discipline and accountability; ensures effective communications across work areas, clarity of expectations and continuous review of performance measures to consistently deliver the business objectives   Deliver on the Malian advancement commitments through succession planning and workplace opportunity creationLead, coach, mentor and support employees and direct reports to understand and deliver on the planning commitmentsDrive the implementation strategies to maximise asset potential and deliver on the plans; aligning resources, people, succession plans and developmentIdentifies the need for change to deliver on operational objectives; supports, drives and monitors change initiativesEnsure effective safety and health management across areas of accountability through high standards of housekeeping, effective critical controls and proactive elimination of hazardsPromptly investigate all injuries, actual or high potential incidents within your area of responsibility and ensure that corrective actions are completed on time and verifiedProvide leadership in the identification and management of risk through compliance with risk management processes and practicesElevates developing issues and concerns to the Departmental Manager for consultation and advice to reach agreed interventions and solutions; report back on the effectivenessResponsible for ensuring the safe and efficient execution of the mining plan to cost and schedule and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in execution of mining activities.  Key aspects of the role include:Overall control of all production mining activitiesMonitoring and control of production mining activities for compliance to planImplementation of the Inrush and Inclement weather TARPSCo-ordination and quality assurance of all drilling, blasting and bogging of cave materialIdentification and implementation of all skills required by the Underground Mining Teams to ensure production targets are met safelyAdvancement of the Malian Underground Mining team to ensure a smooth nationalisation of underground mining positions Requirements: Qualification and SkillBachelor of Engineering (Mining) from a recognised tertiary institutionAt least 10 years’ underground mine planning experience within a highly mechanised environment, preferably with Sub-Level Cave exposureAt least 5 years’ experience in a Senior Mine Planning role3 years SLC or Block Cave experienceHands on experience within the Underground Production environmentMust have proven experience training national workforce and success with implementing succession plansProficient in both Surpac and Deswik softwareUnderground Drill and Blast Design; Underground Ventilation management, design and modellingExperience with managing mining contractorsFrench speaking advantageous Benefits and Contractual information:FIFO expat position
