British Council is seeking supplier expertise to develop and deliver a training programme on framing and implementation of research policy to enhance the skills and career opportunities of female science administrators and managers working in government institutions in India.

The programme is co-funded by the Indian Institute of Science Educationand Research (IISER) in Pune.

The key activity is the delivery of an intensive five-day training workshop for early and/or mid-career female professionals working in various ministries such as Science and Technology, Earth and Oceanic studies, Environment and Forest and Agriculture.

Major Areas

The workshops have provided training in the following three major areas of Science and Technology:

• Science Policy;
• Science Administration & Management; and
• Science Journalism

These workshops aimed to generate avenues to retain trained expertise in science by targeting those who are making a transition from education to scientific careers, a stage where there is maximum attrition. The programme will also raise awareness about varied career options in science and will provide opportunities for professional development through showcasing work done by women and also by providing access to professional networks in India and the UK. It would lead to capacity building by providing women in India access to training and professional development in the above mentioned three major areas in Science and Technology.

This opportunity builds on the workshops and training already completed and aims to support female professionals working in government organisations. The aim of this work will be to enhance the skills of early-career women in government to incorporate science in the policy process and work more closely with researchers and research institutions. The British Council are now seeking supplier expertise in delivering capacity building services within the research and innovation sectors
