Job Profile Summary
The M&S region comprises BP’s GTA project, and the exciting development project represents a significant investment and a strategic opportunity for BP in an emerging world-class hydrocarbon basin.
We are currently assembling a Social Performance team and looking for a Social Performance (SP) Manager to be based in either Senegal or Mauritania, the successful candidate will primarily be responsible for the social performance management plan to mitigate impacts identified during the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and emerging social risks.
This remit includes (1) social impact mitigation, (2) social risk management, (3) community engagement and delivery of field-based social investment activities/programs. The SP Manager also has a pivotal role in ongoing issues management, particularly with respect to field-based external stakeholders.
The position works closely with cross-functions in the Project and Operations to ensure community issues are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner.
The role is responsible for the effective day-to-day management of the field-based social performance team. The position also works closely with other bp Social Performance network members to share best practices across the Group.
Education and Experience Required
Education
- University Degree (preferably in the humanities, social sciences, anthropology) (minimum).
- Postgraduate qualifications in social sciences/ community relations preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in social performance within extractives or major infrastructure project delivery is essential.
- Experience in the development of Environmental and Social Management Systems and the practical application of mitigation planning and community engagement methods.
- Previous experience in the application of the IFC Environmental and Social Performance Standards and other international standards (OGP, ILO Convention etc).
- Extensive experience in identifying and mapping key stakeholder groups.
- Demonstrated experience in the management of grievances and grievance management systems. Conflict management skills are essential.
- Strong track record in building successful relationships and securing alignment between multiple stakeholders.
- Bilingual (English & French). Good English communication. Must be able to read, write and speak
