Job Introduction
The BBC is an international multimedia broadcaster on radio, TV, online and social networks with a weekly global audience of 320 million. As part of an historic and exciting expansion of BBC Africa, the BBC World Service is launching a new Sports weekly TV programme and innovative digital sport content alongside existing African Sport output.
We have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and creative Senior Journalist to join our team and shape BBC Africa’s coverage for young people.
What’s New? (Which launched in 2018) seeks to explain and help children make sense of the world they are growing up in, through a weekly TV programme and digital content. We cover news stories and features which are relevant to young people in our partner countries across the continent.

Role Responsibility
The successful candidate will begin by planning and commissioning content for our audience.
As the Reporter, you will be responsible for the clear and engaging presentation of news stories for Africa’s youth, including understanding the audience and the market’s needs.
This role reports to the Children’s News Editor and leads the content and production of the English programme, as well as feeding into the overall editorial and strategic ambition for the entire Children’s TV and digital services.

Are you the right candidate?
As Reporter you will need a proven strong knowledge of African news and current affairs with the ability to bring news to children in innovative ways that engage, excite and inspire. You will have excellent writing skills and the ability to create fun, informative news content for children. Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of the audience requirements, and a good understanding of youth issues and the media interests of various age groups are needed as well as an understanding of BBC Africa and BBC World Service’s aims and objectives and the programme needs of other parts of the BBC.
Previous experience of managing a team is essential.
