BBC is looking for a Field Producer, Francophone Africa

Job Introduction:
The BBC is an international multimedia broadcaster on radio, TV, online and social networks with a weekly global audience of 320 million. As part of an historic multi-million pound expansion of BBC Africa, the BBC World Service is introducing a wide range of new and exciting language and regional content to serve African and global audiences.

The BBC is the world leader in broadcast newsgathering at the forefront of both the range of editorial coverage and technological innovation.

We are looking for a creative and experienced field producer to join the BBC Africa Hub and work across all platforms. You will be responsible for an area of output, including editorial control, reporting, selection and compilation of material, production, leading teams and planning and implementing effective use of resources.

Role Responsibility

Francophone Africa is a vast region with a huge audience for the BBC in both English and French. From the heart of BBC Afrique HQ in Dakar Senegal, the patch would include Mali, Chad, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast right across to DRC and Burundi. Covering the region also poses specific and significant safety issues, with BBC teams working in areas of high risk.

You will be expected to be a key member of the editorial team in Dakar producing output for BBC Radio, Television and Digital News output. You will work with the BBC Afrique team and the bilingual teams around the francophone region, in particular the bilingual reporter in Dakar.

You will report to the Deployments Editor, Francophone. You will work primarily with the bilingual correspondents in Dakar and Kinshasa as well as BBC Afrique correspondents in neighbouring countries, providing specialist and general coverage of events in the country across the range of BBC outlets.

Are you the right candidate?

You will have strong TV, radio and digital production skills, including knowledge of the BBC’s social media output. Willingness to work flexibly and travel at short notice is essential.

The role requires a good understanding of the challenges facing the BBC in reporting Africa and a creative approach to engaging the audience in what is often a very complicated story. This will include knowledge, understanding and experience of working in hostile environments.
