Bangladesh: 2020 EMK Small Grant is Open for Organizations, Individuals, and Groups

The EMK Center is currently accepting applications for its 2020 Small Grant to provide deserving candidates with an opportunity to realize their dreams of making a positive contribution to society.

The EMK Center is a non-partisan platform committed to open dialogue, informed action, individual and artistic expression, and personal & professional development. The Center is co-managed by the American Center of the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka & University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB).

Thematic Areas

EMK Small Grant 2020 will be provided to below thematic areas:

  • Empowering women and underserved communities: EMK Center is committed to enriching rural and urban females by providing them with required skills, a healthy mental and physical state and by ensuring a gender-neutral workplace.
  • Preventing fake news: Initiatives related to prevention of fake news, digital literacy, media literacy, countering online radicalization and so on.
  • Platforms for employability skills: Initiatives and platform creation for 21st-century employability skills. EMK Center wants to create a robust workforce which promises to be indispensable.
  • Empowerment through arts & culture: Grant will be provided to the initiatives focused on promoting artistic expression, preserving traditional cultural tools and others.
  • Product innovation: As an ardent promoter of STEM education, EMK salutes creativity in scientific developments that will have a positive effect on the community.
  • Green entrepreneurship: Initiatives or projects that are designed to be green or ecofriendly in its services and processes.

Funding Information

The EMK Center will award the Edward M. Kennedy Small Grant for Public Service and the Arts – of between two hundred thousand (2 lakh) and ten hundred thousand (10 lakh) Bangladeshi Taka – to five individuals or groups.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The small grant defines eligible project applicants as reputable and accountable non-commercial entities, individuals as well groups.
    • For non-profit organisations: Following entities will be considered for the EMK Small Grants 2020:
      • Centers promoting Public Service
      • Cultural organisations
      • Community based organisations
      • Organisations registered as Foundation, Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs), Non-profit Organisation, Voluntary organisation, Charitable Organisation
      • Organisations registered as Trust Deed
    • For individuals and groups:
      • Individuals and groups can also submit their ideas and application those are able to demonstrate requisite experience and capacity to manage projects.

Judging Criteria

Using a point-based system, will rate all applications based on:

  • Problem Formulation
  • Sustainability Statement
  • Impact Showcasing
  • Implementation Strategy
  • Budget Narratives
  • Leadership Capacity
