Australia: Channel 7 Children’s Research Foundation Grants up to $100,000 per Project

The Channel 7 Children’s Research Foundation is seeking applications for its Grant program to support quality research within the universities, research institutes, health services and other organisations of South Australia.

Established with proceeds from the SAS Channel 7 Adelaide (then SAS10) annual Christmas Appeal telethon, the Foundation today dedicates around $1.5 million in grants each year to South Australia’s world-class research organisations, universities, institutes, health services, educational and other organisations that work tirelessly to generate new knowledge and build research capability that’s vital to improving the quality of life for all children.
Applications for community-based studies, clinical studies and basic science projects in any area of research into children’s health, education and welfare are considered.

Through its annual grant program, the Channel 7 Children’s Research Foundation also aims to build research capability in South Australia by:
Fostering early career researchers
Funding ‘proof of concept’ research
Providing seed funding for early stage research where other grant funding is unavailable, and
Supporting specific research programs

Grants may now be awarded up to a maximum of $100,000 per project, or Early Career Grants up to a maximum of $40,000 per project.
Projects may be completed over 1 year or 2 years, with funding paid by quarterly instalments over the period of funding.
Eligibility Criteria
Community-based studies, clinical studies, or basic science projects focused on children’s health, education and welfare are invited.
Research must be led from South Australia and national collaboration is encouraged.
The Chief Investigator and Administering Institution MUST be located in South Australia.
It is preferable that all members of the research team are located in South Australia.
International collaboration may be allowed where special skills are not available in South Australia.

Applications for research grants can be made in one only of three categories:
Basic Science: Research to acquire or confirm new knowledge by testing a hypothesis using scientific methodology in a primary laboratory environment.
Clinical Studies: Research conducted with human subjects or human material in which the investigator interacts directly with human subjects. Such research may include the mechanism of human disease, clinical trials, therapeutic intervention, the development of new technology and epidemiology.
Community Based Studies: Research based in a community setting with the objective of providing the community with the tools and information necessary to enact change.
Early Career Grants

Early Career Researchers (ECR) may elect to apply for an ECR grant which is available for:
medical applicants who are undertaking a PhD or MD
non-medical applicants who have Honours, Masters or are undertaking a PhD
applicants who have held their PhD for no more than five years (may be employed as a NHMRC post-doctoral fellow)
applicants who have not previously been Chief Investigator of a significant peer-reviewed grant for organisations such as NHMRC, ARC, CRF, Cancer Council etc.
Early Career researchers are not excluded from applying for a full grant.
