The British Columbia Salmon Restoration and Innovation Fund is intended to:

ensure the fish and seafood sector in BC is positioned for long-term environmental and economic sustainability
support the protection and restoration of wild Pacific salmon and other BC fish stocks
Supports
The Fund supports:
innovation to encourage the development of new technologies to:
increase productivity
help meet conservation and sustainability objectives, including the protection and restoration of wild BC stocks, including Pacific salmon
infrastructure to encourage capital investments in new products, processes or technologies to support the:
advancement of sustainable fishing practices
protection and restoration of wild BC stocks, including Pacific salmon
science partnerships to support collaborations with academia and other research institutions to:
improve the knowledge and understanding of impacts to wild stocks
develop sustainable fishing practices
Priorities
Alignment with priorities is one of the key factors that will be assessed to determine whether a project will receive funding.
Priority 1: Aquaculture and the changing environment
New aquaculture technologies and processes to improve environmental performance and increase supply chain transparency
Priority 2: Species of concern rebuilding (Fraser steelhead, chinook and coho research)
Research to refine the scientific understanding of Fraser steelhead, chinook and coho through science collaborations and the incorporation of Indigenous Knowledge
Priority 3: Species of concern rebuilding (selective fishing)
Projects to advance selective fishing practices aimed at minimizing bycatch of species of concern
Priority 4: Species of concern rebuilding (habitat restoration)
Habitat restoration projects that target red status Conservation Units or COSEWIC-listed populations
Priority 5: Community hatchery upgrades
Infrastructure upgrades or improvements to existing hatcheries
Priority 6: Increasing innovation to support the sustainability and economic stability of BC fisheries
Innovative processes and technologies to increase the quality and value of BC fish and seafood products and optimize fishing operations
Funding Information
The percentage of funding you can receive for your project depends on the nature of your project and size of your organization. BCSRIF funding can support up to:
100% of the total eligible costs of the activity for non-commercial organizations;
90% of the total eligible costs for commercial recipients with enterprises of fewer than 19 employees;
75% of the total eligible costs of the activity for commercial recipients with enterprises of between 20 and 499 employees;
50% of the eligible costs for commercial recipients with 500 or more employees.
These are the maximum levels of support that can be provided. Applicants are encouraged to secure funding from additional sources to minimize risk and demonstrate support for their project. This factor will be considered during the evaluation of project applications.
Eligibility Criteria
Those who are eligible to apply are British Columbia-based:
Indigenous groups
commercial enterprises, including fishers, aquaculturists and seafood processors
universities and academics
industry associations
other organizations, such as research institutions and stewardship groups
To be eligible for funding, you must:
reside in British Columbia
be active in or support activities related to the fish and seafood harvesting, processing or aquaculture sectors
demonstrate protection and restoration benefits to priority BC wild stocks, such as salmon, or to the environmental or economic sustainability of the fisheries and seafood sector in British Columbia
