Applications Open for Micro-Bolsas Petroleum and Climate Change (Brazil)

Deadline: 10-Dec-22

Agência Pública invite journalists from all over the country to present their investigation projects related to the theme – from the agenda – with pre-verification – to planning the execution of the report.

Agência Pública invited reporters across the country to investigate the relationship between oil exploration and climate change.

Objectives
Agência Pública , the first non-profit investigative journalism agency in Brazil, has the mission of encouraging, producing and disseminating quality journalistic content guided by the public interest, rescuing the role of journalism as a tool for society.
Seeking to qualify the democratic debate on important issues for the country, Agência Pública works to encourage the production and coverage of agendas that contribute to public transparency, social justice and the uncompromising defense of human rights.
The reporting micro-grants project is part of efforts to achieve these general objectives, with a specific focus on reporters who intend to produce independent, innovative investigative journalism that is in tune with the most relevant discussions for the population.
In this edition, Agência Pública joins forces with WWF-Brasil – a Brazilian NGO that has been working to combat socio-environmental degradation and defend people’s lives and nature for 26 years – to promote Microbolsas Petróleo and Climate Change. The contest is aimed at reporters interested in working independently on issues of public interest.
They intend to explore guidelines that address the different aspects of the relationship between oil exploration and climate change, mainly in the Amazon region and on the equatorial margin, such as the socio-environmental complexity to assess the impacts of new oil exploration blocks, the history of exploration on the margin equatorial zone, the transparency of the licensing processes and studies of the environmental impact of these projects. It is also important to look at who profits from the shares of oil companies on the stock exchange, if the companies in the sector that claim to apply the ESG concept actually do so.
Funding Information
Micro grants in the amount of R$ 8,000.00.
Eligibility Criteria
Projects submitted by professional journalists, graduates or not, with proven experience in carrying out stories independently, are eligible for 4 (four) micro grants.
