This will be achieved by utilizing, amongst others, construction professionals to include architects, project managers, quantity surveyors, engineers, and developers to deliver on these world class facilities.

Although the position is within procurement, we encourage architects, engineers and construction related professionals to apply.  At the end of the day, developing a building design associated with drawings and specifications, is effectively building the scope of works for upon which the building can be procured, in conjunction with general contractors.

Key Responsibilities

Working as a Construction Procurement Manager you will be responsible to ensure all professional services and projects are procured on time and within the budget, to ensure the as planned delivery of our logistics hubs.

Driving Maersk’s vision of becoming a global integrator of container logistics and growing the company’s logistics and services footprint in Africa

Drive a health and safety agenda, always as priority.

Define and or input to scope for tenders.

Support legal discussions and decisions in conjunction with our legal team.

Monitor and report with regards to construction progress onsite.

Managing your own work module independently, while being part of a team

Solving problems in a structured and analytical manner

Conducting RFPs, RFQs & construction tenders (small and large) and negotiations independently

Managing internal and external stakeholder relations

Understanding and appreciation of appropriate local legislation that will be applicable to projects

Ability to drive site due diligence and project feasibility tasks and reach meaningful conclusions quickly.

Manage the program/timeline and associated risks to ensure reliable and predictable ‘go-live’ dates.

Support contract negotiations (initial and change orders) associated with selecting the general contractor and supporting consultancy services.

Contribute to developing inhouse construction standards and procedures.

Capture lessons learnt and ensure these are communicated to the wider team.

Travel within the Africa region.

Who we are looking for

A Construction Manager / Structural Engineer / Civil Engineer / Architect with previous experience across all stages of construction projects.

Experience in procuring specialist consultants, and the ability to identify their need in advance of being required.

Experience associated with the procurement of general contractors.

Preferably, has be involved with the development of industrial logistics parks, including warehousing, cold storage facilities and depots, or similar industrial projects such as data centres.

Is familiar with managing and controlling project costs, to ensure projects remain within the approved CAPEX.  To also include the identification of project risk.

Experience in decarbonisation, renewable energies and internationally recognised sustainability accreditation programmes.

An overall understanding of technical building systems including mechanical, electrical, building management system (BMS), and fire protection.

Has experience in working with building information modelling (BIM) projects.

Candidate will be a driven, self-starter who has the ability to deliver under pressure

At least +10 years of experience in design and construction, including sourcing, management of tenders and contracting related to the construction of large industrial projects

Strategic mind-set and an ability to create seamless and creative solutions to deliver on business objectives

Outstanding professional performance, with strong personal impact with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Proven outstanding negotiation skills and ability to engage with external partners and internal stakeholders and build meaningful relationships in order to deliver

Work cooperatively with others across the organization to achieve shared objectives and to support team goals

Aptitude for leadership and inspiring others to excel
