APM Terminals Liberia is part of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Maersk group, an integrated container logistics company working to connect and simplify it’s customers’ supply chains. As the global leader in shipping services, the company operates in 130 countries and employs roughly 79,900 people. In August 2010 APM Terminals signed a 25 year concession with the Government of Liberia to upgrade and operate the port of Monrovia, and commenced operations in February 2011. To date APM Terminals has invested USD 125 mill on equipment, systems, civil works and modernization of the port. APM Terminals Liberia operates employs over 250 people, and indirectly employs a further 700 people.

Key responsibilities
Carries out pilotage, berthing services to ships in a safe and efficient manner and Ship’s Husbandry and Health and Safety checks on board Company Marine craft.
Takes responsibility for ensuring that adequate marine maintenance carried out as directed.
Carries out guidelines laid down by the company, Port and other external bodies, keep all paperwork accurate and up to date.
Participates in a roster system with the other Pilots to maintain cover on a 24-hour basis.
Builds working relationships with Tug crews, port authorities and agents and take part in operational meetings with customers as and when required.
Ensures that appropriate direction, control and discipline is applied to all vessels that call within the port boundaries, including conventional craft, barges, dhows, fishing crafts, naval and police boats to ensure their safety and safety of the Port.
Ensures that effective communications are in place and operating between the Port and vessels.
We are looking for
Requires a college degree in marine related discipline, preferably from a marine academy or naval college. A Certificate of Competency as MASTER FOREIGN GOING is preferred.
Requires at least five or more years of experience in handling large ships (LOA over 210meters) within harbor areas, utilizing conventional and tractor tugs. Requires working knowledge of tug operations.
Requires at least three years of managerial experience in the field of marine services management. Experience will include roles as a First Officer/Mate of an ocean-going vessel. Experience as a Master Mariner is desirable.
Must have thorough knowledge of local and other maritime laws and regulations, including international maritime conventions, and port rules and regulations.
Must be thoroughly familiar with all types of vessels that call at port.
Must be thoroughly familiar with all safety procedures that apply to vessels in and around the port.
Must be thoroughly familiar with all oil spill and hazardous materials handling procedures.
Must be thoroughly familiar with emergency rescue operations at sea or in the port or surrounding area.
Ability to analyze all marine situations.
Advanced level of verbal and written communications skills in English.
Ability to submit accurate and detailed reports, good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.
Able to exercise good judgment in order to set priorities.
Ability to train potential pilots, tug master and crews in all marine operations.
