Duties
This position is in the Information Resource Management office and reports to an American IPC employee designated by the Information Programs Officer. Calls are manually routed using the Avaya Telephone Switchboard/Operators console and faxes are sent and received via a bank of fax machines from various manufacturers. The incumbent receives, transfers and/or places voice and fax calls in support of 20 USG agencies and over 500 employees resident in Dakar.
Job requirements
- Two years of switchboard operating experience is required.
- A good knowledge of mission organizations, their functions, and a familiarity with their personnel are required. Knowledge of local customs and greetings, as they relate to specific phone dialing or connection issues is required.
- Completion of secondary school is required.
- Level III (good working knowledge) of writing/speaking/reading English is required.
- Level III (good working knowledge) of writing/speaking/reading Wolof is required.
- Level II French (good working knowledge) writing/speaking/reading is required.
This is a customer service-oriented position dealing with USG employees and US citizens in both official and personal user capacities, locally and internationally. It is also a customer service position for the citizens, business persons and government officials of the host country. Tact and diplomacy skills are paramount to successful user community relations. Basic typing skill is required. Ability to use the Avaya Telephone System Switchboard Console, various makes and models of facsimile machines is required.
