Alkazi Foundation is inviting works from or about India for its Documentary Photography Grant 2018 to advance socially engaged photography and its limitless potential to drive change. The grant broadly seeks works that chronicle events, practices, people and spaces and how practitioners interpret them. The name of the grant recipients will be declared by August / September 2018.

The series submitted need not therefore be prescribed in its visual style. The foundation is looking forward to submissions that push the boundaries of such practices and explore personnel projects associated with the family, memory, geography and hence society at large.

The Alkazi Foundation for the Arts is a registered charitable trust based in new Delhi. It focuses on the study of the cultural history of India and broader South Asia through its growing archive of 19th and 20th century photographs.

Funding Information

• Grant of INR 4 Lakhs will be awarded.

Eligibility Criteria

• The fellowship is open to Indian nationals/residents, and the focus of their suggested project should be from or about India.
• It is open to all photographers above the age of 25 years. The applicant does not have to be a professional photographer.
• Applicants should not hold any other fellowship or grant relating to the proposed project. This is a one-time grant for this project.
• Applicants will need to present a portfolio or body of work in an easily accessible digital format (a PDF).
• The portfolio should consist of a maximum of 30 images in a sequenced and structured presentation with text.
• The project proposal should be for a realistic documentary project on a clear theme.
• The proposal should include a timetable to completion and a brief summary of the uses to which the grant funds will be put.
