Position summary
Through its department of Data Management, Digital Products, and Technology, AKADEMIYA2063 is looking for a Web Developer. The selected candidate will report to the Director of Data Management, Digital Products, and Technology and the position is based in Dakar, Senegal. The candidate must have proven experience of designing and developing websites, digital platforms, and data portals. An extensive knowledge of relational databases is also required.
She/he must show a strong capacity in working autonomously and dealing with several priorities in a fast-paced environment. She/he must have strong interpersonal and communication skills and the capacity to collaborate with the staff at different levels of the organization and with external partners. She/he must have a strong capacity of self-motivation, must be exceptionally resourceful, detail-oriented, and have high organizational planning and reporting skills.
Duties and responsibilities
The Web Developer duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Create and maintain responsive websites using web development best practices
- Collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders to gather and refine specifications and requirements
- Ensure high-performance and availability of AKADEMIYA2063 websites and digital platforms
- Gradually lead the development and maintenance of the ReSAKSS Country e-Atlases
- Develop protocols, policies, and capacities in terms of data processing, storage, and distribution from AKADEMIYA2063 databases to researchers and partners in countries
- Collaborate with team members to improve and add features on the Fast-Mapping Tool as a primary web mapping facility for countries and partners
- Integrate data from various back-end services and databases
- Keep up with the latest research and trends in Web applications and programming practices
- Develop AKADEMIYA2063 web and mobile friendly data gathering tool
- Create and maintain documentation for all web applications
- Design, implement, optimize, and deploy web applications that solve business needs
- Support the development and integration of new technological tools in our platforms
Qualifications and expérience
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering, or any related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in web programming
Skills / Knowledge / Experience / Abilities
- Strong experience in building responsive websites using Drupal CMS, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, JSON, PHP, and SQL
- Strong experience in developing web solutions with Drupal
- Hands-on experience with modern UI frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js)
- Adequate knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming
- Through understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (planning, designing, developing, testing, and deploying)
- Proven experience and knowledge of relational database administration and design (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQL Server)
- Experience in designing, developing, and implementing RESTful Services and APIs
- Strong understanding of how web applications work, including security, session management, and best practices
- Good experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau Public and Microsoft Power BI
- Extensive knowledge and experience in web programming
- Experience with scripting languages (Shell, Bash, JSON, JavaScript etc….)
- Good familiarity with Linux
- Superb analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment
- Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment
- Adaptation capacity and flexibility in a changing environment
- Ability to interface smoothly and communicate effectively across multiple teams and disciplines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Fluency in written and spoken French and English
