ProPublica Diversity Scholarship 2018 for U.S. Students to attend Journalism Conferences

The ProPublica Diversity Scholarship 2018 is open for applications. ProPublica is sponsoring 21 need-based scholarships for student journalists to attend the conferences of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the National Association of Black Journalists, the Asian American Journalists Association, the Native American Journalists Association and the Association of LGBTQ Journalists. If you are a student who would otherwise be unable to attend one of these conferences, they encourage you to apply.
These scholarships are a small but important step to help student journalists from underrepresented communities take advantage of everything these conferences offer.
Scholarships
The $700 scholarships will go to students who would otherwise be unable to attend. These conferences offer great opportunities for networking and professional development, especially for those just starting out in journalism.
They understand that in some cases, this scholarship may not cover all the costs of attending a conference. They do hope, however, that it is enough to make a difference for aspiring journalists. The $700 scholarship will be distributed as a stipend at the conference.
Conferences
Students will be able to select a conference as part of their application. They will have the following options:
- The NAHJ conference in Miami, Florida, July 18–21.
- The NAJA conference in Miami, Florida, July 18–21.
- The NABJ convention in Detroit, Michigan, Aug. 1–5.
- The AAJA convention in Houston, Texas, Aug. 8–11.
- The NLGJA convention in Palm Springs, California, Sept. 6–9.
Eligibility
- High school, college and grad school students are all welcome to apply.
- You must be a student at the time of application, but it’s OK if you’re graduating this spring.
