The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has announced a call for proposals for the 2nd Round of the “Empreende Jovem” Program on Innovation Contest – Tourism 2.0.

This is a joint initiative between the United Nations Development Program – UNDP and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneurship, aimed at supporting the sector private sector, job creation and, through this, the improvement of family economies of all those involved, both entrepreneurs and those working in companies that it is intended to support.

The main objective of this program is the promotion of youth entrepreneurship and the creation of youth employment, so the participants who fall into this age group, here between 18 and 40 years old on 12.31.2020, and who favor the creation of jobs work with these characteristics will be valued in their proposals.
The focus on Tourism and the industries associated with its value chain, aiming at strengthening existing business opportunities, import substitution involving local products and resources, the improving the training and conditions of workers, and promoting innovation through new offers are the main ingredients of this Fund. As examples of areas to effect they have hotels, restaurants, agriculture, handicrafts, livestock, fisheries, etc.
Funding Information

The expected allocation for the Tourism 2.0 Innovation Competition Fund is USD 340,000.
The maximum prize per project is 25,000 USD, with a selection of at least 12 projects. If the projects do not reach the maximum premium, the remaining amount will be assigned to projects in order of final classification.
There may be a special increase for a maximum of 3 projects considered particularly innovators by the panel of judges.
Eligibility Criteria

Project promoter must be a company or organization registered in São Tomé andPríncipe respecting the criteria already presented;
Business idea or project must be implemented in São Tomé and Príncipe;
The project sponsor may have a consortium composed of companies and organizations another typology;
All candidates and members of your consortium must demonstrate the ability to implement the project and prove your financial capacity to do so;
All candidates and members of your consortium must be free of debt with respect to it concerns your tax situation and Social Security;
Candidate projects for the Turismo 2.0 Innovation Contest must be able to:
present products or services that respond to market needs incorporating local suppliers into the value chain, thereby promoting endogenous resources;
or modernize its processes and practices making them more efficient and adapted to the market, improving working conditions and opportunities for São Tomé workers;
or present different and innovative solutions to take advantage of the tourism and the potential of São Tomé and Príncipe valuing it;
The project must be directly related to the Tourism sector involving the entire your value chain;
The candidate company / consortium must guarantee its share of the contribution to the percentage defined by the Fund. This contribution can be in value or a combination of financial value and contribution in kind. At gender, contributions will be assessed by the panel of judges and the monitoring to decide on their acceptance and appreciation.
Projects must demonstrate that the investments and activities that are going to be financed by the Fund will be new activities and investments that will add value to what the company / consortium already has.
NOTE: Projects that will:
Have inclusive characteristics in the way they recruit and involve and benefit local communities, in particular, youth employment and equality opportunities;
Increase your use of local suppliers and the use of raw materials or endogenous subsidiaries and other proposals that may lead to the replacement imports;
Present proven environmental concerns and how they will mitigate potential negative environmental impacts.
