2023 PEN/Jean Stein Grants for Literary Oral History in the US

Deadline: 1-Jun-22

The Pen America is seeking applications for its PEN/Jean Stein Grants for Literary Oral History to recognize literary works of nonfiction that use oral history to illuminate an event, individual, place, or movement.

Do the writing sample and transcription need to cover the same material?

Yes. The transcript and writing sample should best represent the project’s overall goals, subject matter, and process, and should be the same materials and/or scene so that the judging panel may understand how you are utilizing oral history throughout the project.
