The United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham (UWHR) is seeking applications for its Community Impact Grant program 2021-2023.

The United Way ALICE Project is the umbrella of work to both reveal and address the needs of this population. The project includes research, United Way ALICE Reports, the National ALICE Advisory Council, state-based Research Advisory Committees, the ALICE Learning Community, and local community impact work to address the needs of this population.

Housing – Adequate for the clients’ needs, affordable and safe.
Childcare – Quality (as defined by Virginia Quality standards), accessible, and affordable.
Transportation – Reliable and affordable.
Education – Supplemental, quality learning opportunities for college and/or career readiness.
Food – Healthy (meets daily nutritional requirements and standards), appealing (is culturally appropriate), and affordable.
Healthcare – Accessible, affordable, preventative.
Life Skills Development – Financial literacy and workforce development.

Funding Request Maximum: $25,000.
Eligibility Criteria

In order to be eligible to receive Community Impact Grant from United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, organizations must satisfy all four of the following criteria:
Be a human services organization.
Serve residents of Harrisonburg City and/or Rockingham County.
Have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status from the IRS or partner with a fiscal agent that has 501(c)(3) status.
Work in alignment with one or more of ALICE priority areas.
Organizations applying for grant funding should be prepared to submit the most recent copy of the following documents:
An audit by an independent CPA, financial review, or compilation.
IRS Tax Form 990 (or 990-EZ).
A 12-month operating budget for applicants’ organization for their most recent fiscal year.
Review Process

Grant applications from currently funded partners will be reviewed by members of United Way’s Community Impact Committee (CIC).
Grant applications from organizations not currently funded by United Way will first be reviewed by a smaller Community Impact Team (CIT) before being considered by the CIC.
The CIC is made up of UWHR Board Members and members of the community with an interest and commitment to working towards solutions to issues facing the local ALICE population.
The CIT members represent a balance of United Way donors, local business leaders, volunteers, and individuals from their local community. Final grant awards will be approved by the United Way Board of Directors.
