2020 Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP) in Belize

The Cultural Heritage Center of the Office of Education and Cultural Affairs of the State Department and the US Embassy in Belize have announced the 2020 Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP).
The Ambassadors Fund supports a wide range of cultural heritage preservation projects, including technical support for the restoration of historic buildings, the evaluation and preservation of rare artefacts and museum collections, as well as protection of important archaeological sites, and documentation of traditional arts and crafts techniques in the process of disappearing and specific to Belize’s cultural heritage.
Since its inception, the Ambassadors Fund has supported more than 550 cultural heritage preservation projects in more than 100 countries, totaling more than $20 million. The Ambassadors Fund supports the protection of cultural sites, cultural objects and forms of traditional cultural expressions in more than 100 countries around the world.
Funding Information
Funding will be in the form of a grant. The lowest amount per project will be $ 10,000; the highest ceiling will be $ 200,000 per project.
Funded Categories
The AFCP program supports projects that adhere to the following guidelines and that meet international standards for the preservation of cultural heritage in the following three categories:
- Cultural sites: such as restoring ancient historic buildings, preserving archaeological sites, or documenting cultural sites in a region for preservation purposes.
- Objects and cultural collections: the restoration of an object or a collection of objects belonging to a museum, a site, or a similar institution, such as (but not only) the restoration of archaeological and ethnographic objects, paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, or for conservation purposes specific to museums in general; the assessment of the conservation needs of a collection in relation to its state and in relation to strategies to improve its state of conservation; the inventory of a collection to be preserved and protected; the creation of safe environments for the storage or display of collections; or specialized training for the protection and preservation of collections.
- Forms of traditional cultural expression: such as documentation and audio-visual recording of traditional music and dance forms for wide dissemination, or better, for preservation, or training support in the preservation of applied arts trades or crafts threatened with extinction.
Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to all non-governmental organizations in Belize, museums, government ministries, or similar non-commercial institutions, organizations that can demonstrate that they have the required experience and the means to manage projects. preservation of cultural heritage.
