*Preferred Location: (Any of the countries in Southern Africa). The final location will be determined by home country of successful candidate in Africa where WVI is registered to operate.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Lead in development of Africa public engagement strategy across all national offices (mass media, social media, digital, campaigns, events) that result in national, regional and global share of voice increasing. Ensure all national offices have increased technical capacity and ability to engage publics through innovative communications in support of their national strategy. The Manager will manage systems and processes that provide quality assurance of all national office public engagement communications throughout Africa’s three regions and provide technical leadership and mentoring to national office Public Engagement communications staff. The Manager will ensure national office public engagement communications is supporting the It Takes A World campaign and Global Moments in partnership with regional and national advocacy, and will lead in the development of targeted regional-level public engagement communications collateral in support of regional resource development, campaigns, and events.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead in development and on-going management of Africa public engagement strategy across all national offices (mass media, social media, digital, campaigns, events).
Manage national offices to increase technical capacity and ability to engage publics through innovative communications in support of their national strategy and provide technical leadership and coaching national office Public Engagement communications staff.
Provide quality assurance of all public engagement communications throughout Africa’s three regions.
Ensure national office public engagement communications is supporting the It Takes A World campaign in partnership with regional and national advocacy.
Development of targeted regional-level public engagement collateral/channels in support of regional business/resourcedevelopment/campaigns.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Required:
A university degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Relations, or other related field or significant directly relevant work experience in lieu of a formal degree.
Public or Supporter Engagement and Communications technical leadership, and project management skills in the communications, production, creative industries.
A demonstrable track record of working and managing cross-cultural stakeholders and forging strong partnerships.
Excellent technical communications skills in one or more of the following areas; editorial, production, design, journalism.
Proven ability to produce high quality multi-media content for public or supporter engagement.
Strong track record in international development.
Agile work ethic – able to quickly develop, implement, learn, adapt, and change.
Ability to identify and understand different audiences and utilise appropriate communication channels and content.
Experience managing multiple assignments across multiple contexts.
Proven ability to effectively coach and train individuals and teams and project manage to deliver outcomes on time.
Fluent English is essential; knowledge of one or more regional languages is an asset.
Preferred:
At least 6 years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communication, international development. International fieldwork experience required.
Leading, formulating plans and concepts, relating and networking, persuading and influencing, entrepreneurial thinking.
Adopts thinking that is informed by context and practice, shows consistency of treatment and a clear outcome focus. Able to select and evaluate information to plan and manage communications for various audiences.
Able to enable an efficient, effective and transparent flow of information, across groups and stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple requests and prioritise according to strategic needs.
Solid work experience at a similar level, managing communications for public or supporter engagement in Africa.
Work Environment:
The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time.
This position demands responsiveness to context, openness to working flexibly, and willingness to adjust according to operational realities.
