WorldVeg is seeking a highly experienced driver to be part of a team to implement and deliver activitiesof a 5-year project entitled ‘Safe locally produced vegetables for West Africa’s consumers’ (SAFEVEG),aimed at promoting the role of vegetables in agricultural research and local food systems in West Africa.SAFEVEG is funded by the European Union and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The projectis expected to commence during the last quarter of 2020. The position will be based at WorldVeg’sregional center for West and Central Africa – Coastal and Humid Regions (WCA-CH) in Cotonou, Beninand report to the Head of Regional Finance and Administration.
Key job responsibilities :• Assist in driving regional office and project vehicles to convey authorized staffs and visitingpartners as directed by the Head of Regional Finance and Administration;• Drive vehicles on errands for project activities and assist in the execution of projectsactivities in lab, screen house, glass house and field;• Collect and deliver mail, documents, and other items, as requested by the Head ofRegional Finance and Administration• Responsible for the day to day maintenance of vehicles under Driver’s care (cleaning ofinside and outside, daily/regular check-up of the engine oil level, water level, the batteryand the air filter etc.) and report any malfunction of the vehicles to the immediatesupervisor• Ensure vehicle documents are up to date and comply with minimum security and safetyoperating standards (MSOS);• Ensure safe driving of vehicles following WorldVeg safety guidelines and road andtransport authority guidelines; Report all events of accidents including near misses to theRegional Office Manager immediately and take guidance for handling the situation asrequired;• Ensure the recording of each trip details in the vehicle logbook;• Perform any other duty assigned by the supervisor and ultimately, the WCA-CH RegionalDirector.
The Person :The candidate should have an advanced level certificate as a minimum, a higher qualification will bean added advantage.• Driver’s license class B, C or higher and a certificate of good conduct• A minimum of 5 years’ experience driving SUV vehicles in rough terrains• Good communication and interpersonal skills and ability to exercise initiative andreasonable judgement• Basic automobile maintenance skills• Willingness to work extra hours and on weekends if circumstances require• Fluent in spoken and written French. Proficiency in English will be added advantage.• Ability to work independently with minimum supervision• Computer literate in Word and Excel – an added advantageThe Reward: This is a Nationally Recruited Staff position with competitive pay and benefits. Theposition is only open to Benin nationals or candidates with legal permission to work in Benin. The initialappointment is for one year and may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability, andperformance of the incumbent. The position is expected to be available on or after November 1, 2020.
