Regional Animal Health Coordinator – OIE sub-regional Representation for South East Asia in Bangkok (Thailand)
Description | Context:
The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) is the intergovernmental organisation responsible for improving animal health worldwide. The standards it develops for the trade of live animals and products of animal origin are recognized by the World Trade Organization as reference international sanitary rules (http://www.oie.int/fr/). Based on its standards on the performance of Veterinary Services, the OIE has developed a set of tools aiming at evaluating and strengthening the national Veterinary Services. The OIE has 182 Members and is present on all continents through 12 Representations, including the Sub-Regional Representation for South East Asia, based in Bangkok, Thailand. The OIE has a mandate to improve animal health and welfare globally by developing standards, guidelines and tools to support its Member Countries in disease prevention and control. The OIE’s strategy focuses on strengthening existing health systems to (i) support early detection, (ii) rapidly respond to, (iii) and report animal and zoonotic disease outbreaks. Activities related to transboundary animal diseases (TADs) are mainly conducted under the Global Framework for the Progressive Control of Transboundary Animal Diseases (GF-TADs) which is a joint initiative of FAO and OIE. The GF-TADs mechanism combines the strengths of both organisations to achieve agreed common objectives, to empower global and regional alliances in the fight against Transboundary Animal Diseases (TADs), to provide for capacity building and to assist in establishing programmes for the specific control of certain TADs based on global and regional priorities.The OIE is looking for a Regional Animal Health Coordinator for the OIE Sub-Regional Representation for South-East Asia Positioning and reporting Under the authority of the OIE Director General, under the supervision of the OIE Sub-Regional Representative for South-East Asia, and in close collaboration with other colleagues in charge of animal diseases prevention and control. Missions and activities The Regional Animal Health Coordinator will be responsible for the following: Implement the Global Strategies for foot and mouth disease (FMD) and peste des petits ruminants (PPR), and the Global Initiative for African swine fever (ASF) in South East Asia, as well as relevant sub-regional frameworks or strategies. In addition, the OIE Director General or the Sub-Regional Representative may, where necessary, assign to the incumbent any other duties within his or her area of competence, or request him or her to represent the Director General in designated meetings, seminars, conferences or other types of public fora (including the media). |
