STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.
Experience: Four or more years of progressively responsible work experience in the relative business stream with experience in general administrative work.
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.
Knowledge & Skills:
1. Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure as part of a team
2. Excellent written and analytical skills
3. Basic knowledge of logistics operations and humanitarian reform / cluster concept
4. Sound knowledge of Microsoft Windows, MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint and other related software
5. Willingness to work in challenging environments / field locations.
ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT
These jobs are found in Country Offices (COs), Regional Bureaux (RBs), and Headquarters (HQ). Job holders performing front office management functions typically report to the Deputy Directors or Head of Offices. In cases where these positions support a specific business stream, the reporting line may be to the Head of Unit, Chief, or the designate.
At this level job holders are expected to take responsibility for completion of a range of business support activities requiring some interpretation of standard guidelines/practices. Job holders are able to recommend a course of action to staff at various levels and may allocate tasks to more junior colleagues.
JOB PURPOSE
To support an efficient humanitarian response to crisis, the Logistics Cluster will employ a Business Support Assistant-Logistics to support inter-agency emergency relief efforts. This position is to be filled by a South Sudanese national and the role will be based in the Bentiu field office. The staff member will report to the Logistics Associate.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
1. Provide specialized support to the Logistics Cluster operations and activities, following standard process and contributing to the effective storage and delivery of non-food items (NFIs).
2. Help to manage the IOM Common Transport Service truck project for transporting cargo, preparing necessary documentation and follow-up with partner organizations.
3. Oversee loading and reception of partner charter cargo flights and support with reception of Logistics Cluster convoys to Bentiu, making any necessary storage arrangements on behalf of partner organizations.
4. Supervise the work of support staff, providing practical advice and guidance to ensure individual and team objectives are delivered to agreed standards and deadlines.
5. Regular visits to the warehouses, for physical verification of stored cargo and also support the storekeeper on best warehouse procedures.
6. Maintain a positive relationship with Logistics Cluster partners in various duty stations.
