World Energy Council’s Future Energy Leaders’ Programme (FEL-100) 2018

The World Energy Council is now looking for the next set of bright young professionals to join its Future Energy Leaders’ programme – the FEL-100, which is designed to help shape, inspire and grow our energy leaders of tomorrow. This is a prime opportunity for young professionals to become one of the Council’s key communities.
The FEL Programme is a global and diverse network of young energy professionals. It is designed to help shape, inspire and grow energy leaders of tomorrow. It serves as a platform for engaging a limited number of ambitious young professionals in national, regional and international activities and events.
The Future Energy Leaders (FELS), form a community of exceptional young professionals who share a commitment to shaping the global energy agenda. The FEL 100 network consists of individuals from across the globe who represent diverse players within the energy sector including government, academia, civil society, industry as well as social entrepreneurs.
The World Energy Council is the world’s principal network of energy leaders and practitioners. The organisation has a co-ordinating Secretariat based in London, United Kingdom, under the direction of the Secretary General who reports to the Council’s board, the Officers Council, under the leadership of an elected Chair.
Requirements
The main objective of the FEL Programme is to improve knowledge, experience and skills. Future energy leaders are expected to actively participate in at least the following activities:
- Be an active member of one of Council’s working groups
- Be an active member of one of the FEL-100 taskforces
- Complete the annual World Energy Issues Monitor survey
- Participate in the FEL-100 Summit or FEL Congress
Being a FEL means participating in regular calls and meetings with taskforce co-members, replying regularly to emails and delivering the tasks signed up for either in the Council’s working group or the FEL taskforce. They expect those activities to take no more than 5-8 hours per month. However, some months could be very quiet and others busier.

Every year the number of applicants is greater than the number of spaces available and the number of applications grows. Therefore, only the strongest candidates will be selected by the Nominations Committee of the FEL Board, taking into account the diversity of gender, background and region.
Eligibility
They are looking for the brightest young professionals around the world!
Programme applicants should meet the following essential criteria:
- Demonstrate a solid interest and proven track record in energy; the CV indicates a specific achievement and the potential to become a leader in the energy sector
- Hold a bachelor’s degree or higher
- Have a minimum of 3 years full-time post-graduate and professional experience in an energy-related field
- Be highly motivated to work with the World Energy Council and ready to show commitment to become a member of the FEL-100, remaining engaged for at least one year
- Possess an advanced level of English, as the programme and all communications will be delivered in English
- Not be more than 35 years old at the time of application (born on or after February 1982).
Application
National Member Committees (MCs), as well as Global Partners and Patrons have the opportunity to nominate young professionals to the programme.
Even when candidates send their application directly to the Head of the FEL Programme based in the London Office or through a Patron or Global Partner of the World Energy Council, a request for support will be sent to the National Member Committee (MC) in their respective countries. The Council recommends candidates to directly get in touch with their national MC. However, in exceptional cases, FELs without an MC Nomination are accepted into the programme.
