The Corporate Services Department within Global Corporate Solutions (GCS) provides services to the World Bank Group in the areas of Translation and Interpretation; Graphic Design and Publications; Printing and Interactive Media; Travel and Visa services; Food and Conference Services; Mail and Shipping; Staff Services; and the Art Program.  The Department also provides administrative support and oversight to the World Bank Family Network, the World Bank Group Staff Association, and the 1818 Society. It is responsible for setting the policy framework and service standards, and for delivering services through a combination of staff and vendors at HQ and in Country Offices. GCS Corporate Services has about 130 staff and about 1000 contractors. 
The purpose of the Translation and Interpretation Unit (GCSTI) is to facilitate the World Bank Group’s communications with its member governments, with a wide range of institutions, civil society associations, nongovernmental organizations, and other entities, by providing translation and conference interpretation services. The successful candidate will contribute to the French translation program, one of six in-house translation programs (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish) and will report directly to the Team Leader, under the general oversight of GCSTI Senior Program Manager.
Duties and Accountabilities
•Produces self-revised translations, primarily from English to French, of a wide range of World Bank documents, ensuring their accuracy, completeness, consistency, stylistic acceptability, and on-schedule delivery.
•Prepares translations, often of a sensitive or confidential nature, and frequently on short notice.
•Researches each source document thoroughly, fully using translation aid tools and systems available to ensure that the appropriate specialized terminology is employed.
•Revises translations produced by other translators.
•Checks the content and the format of documents translated following computer-assisted processing if applicable.
•Supports terminology development work.
•Communicates with other translators working on the same document or subject, ensuring consistency of style and terminology in the final products.
•Communicates with clients on documents translated and delivered.
•Organizes own program of work and reports to supervisor.
•Pays particular attention to keeping computer and information technology skills up to date, and to remaining abreast of general developments in the translation/interpretation field.
Selection Criteria
•Minimum: Master’s degree with five years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Preferred: Degree in translation or post-graduate degree in translation, economics, finance, law or social sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•French as primary language (i.e., native-level ability) or mother tongue.
•Excellent comprehension of English; comprehension of Portuguese and Spanish as a source language would be desirable.
•Proficiency in the use of relevant standard software packages, e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
•Proficiency in the use of web-based terminology and reference tools.
•Proficiency in the use of CAT Tools, especially SDL Trados and Groupshare, as well as use and maintenance of translation memories.
•Ability to work under very tight deadlines.
•Ability to work in a multicultural environment and build effective working relations with clients and colleagues.
•Specialized knowledge in fields such as public finance, accounting, law, or the social sciences would be desirable.
•Qualification as an interpreter would be considered as an asset.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to take a written translation test.
