UNICEF Sierra Leone is looking for a national Communications Assistant consultant.
Objectives, Purpose & Expected results
A qualified and dedicated Communication Assistant (Advocacy and digital media) is required to provide effective and efficient support to the External Relations and Advocacy Section during the period of commemorating CRC@30.  The Communication Assistant (advocacy and digital media) will provide the needed administrative and logistic support in planning and organization of CRC@30 events, workshops, seminars, press conferences and exhibits. S/he will also help to co-ordinate UNICEF Sierra Leone’s presence in a number of digital platforms (such as UNICEF Sierra Leone’s web page, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram). The position will ensure that UNICEF Sierra Leone pages are kept up-to-date in addition to identifying and creating conversations around issues related to UNICEF’s mandate and engage followers in a dynamic, interactive and meaningful way.
Specific Objectives
Under the close supervision and guidance of the supervisor, performs a variety of information gathering, technical, logistical and administrative services, in support of planning and organizing the CRC@30 commemorations, including managing UNICEF Sierra Leone’s strategic approach to social media and digital communication across channels.
Description of the assignment
Major Tasks to be undertaken:
Contact and follow up with resource persons, contractors, consultants and production teams for production of broadcasting materials, video films and events banners
Maintain inventory of all printed materials; assess reprinting needs of advocacy/communication materials and arrange its reprinting
Gather assets, edit photos and videos for the web and social media sharing.
Identify opportunities to seed existing content. Identify opportunities for expert web chats or live contribution.
Maintain digital photo database and supports with information sourcing for updating of social media and website.
Maintain electronic documentation database of publications, press releases and media clippings
Manage and update section data base of contacts of the Government counterparts, donor, Diplomatic Corps, UN/NGO, and media communities, for use in networking and materials distribution.
Assist in the monitoring of the appropriate and timely dissemination of advocacy, partnerships and communications materials to target audiences
Arrange logistics for visitors/missions; arrange permits for media teams and partners as required.
Deliverables
Logistical and administrative requirements for Commemoration of CRC@30 are in place for 20 November 2019
Comprehensive mailing list established and updated
Inventory of all printed materials and assets developed and maintained
Documentation database of publications updated and maintained
Advocacy, partnerships and communications materials regularly disseminated
Administrative issues
The duration of the contract will be 9 months starting 1 May to 31 December 2019
The contract can be terminated if the work is not satisfactory.
The candidate will be based at UNICEF Office in the UN Building. Office space and computer equipment will be provided.
The incumbent is expected to adhere to the set office hours and to be flexible to work outside normal hours when required
The assistant will be given a monthly remuneration. This amount includes transport costs
Remuneration will be paid on a monthly basis against monthly reports on the progress of the agreed tasks.
Qualification/Skills/Experience
Completion of Tertiary Education in Communication/Public Relations/Administration
At Least two years of practical experience in similar position
Experience in communication and media work is required
Fluency in English is required
Knowledge of the local languages is considered as an asset
Knowledge of UNICEF work and children’s rights issues would be an asset
Ability to work independently
Good organization skills
