Most low and middle-income countries have relied and continue to rely on donors’ support to finance their health systems and health commodities including vaccines, drugs, healthcare products etc.  Strong planning and budgeting for health is viewed as one of the most important foundations for reaching universal health coverage an objective that is targeting by most countries in the region.
UNICEF ESARO Health Financing unit is currently offering an internship position to support its ongoing work on Immunization and Health Financing and Sustainability. Specifically, the position will support ESAR country offices’ advocacy efforts, from planning and budgeting to evidence generation.
How can you make a difference?
Under the general guidance of the Senior Health Specialist, Health Financing and System Strengthening, the intern will provide support on the analytics of health and immunization data. The key tasks will be:
Develop mapping of immunization activities underway in the region and supported by UNICEF Country Offices (COs).
Support regional mapping of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) efforts in the region.
Support analysis of data gathered from various countries on health financing related issues and health systems challenges.
Support immunization costing and financing-related activities in the region.
Support Public Financial Management for health projects underway by Regional Office and Headquarter levels.
Summarize findings of this research and contribute to the writing of a peer-reviewed publication
Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Enrolled in an advanced university degree with a major in economics, health economics, statistical methods of Public Financial Management (PFM); or graduated within the past two years with an advanced university degree with a major in economics, health economics, statistical methods of Public Financial Management (PFM).
A relevant background in planning and budgeting in heath in developing countries.
Developing country work experience is required.
Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
