How can you make a difference?
As a member of the UNICEF KCO HIV Team, contribute toward:
Reducing mother to child transmission of HIV
Reducing the number of new child HIV infections
Reducing HIV-attributable deaths among children 0-14 yrs
Reducing HIV incidence in women of reproductive age (15-49)
Identifying HIV positive pregnant women for PMTCT services
Increasing provision of ARVs to pregnant women living with HIV
Increasing the coverage for early infant diagnosis for HIV
Improving access to and quality of paediatric ART
Reference to Work Plans and UNDAF Outputs
The role of the incumbent will be to contribute to outcome 1 of the UNICEF AWP which aims to increase the proportions of vulnerable children, pregnant and lactating women, including adolescent girls that have equitable access to and use quality WASH, Nutrition, Health and HIV/AIDS services. It will also contribute to outcome 5, of the UNICEF RWP that aims to improve access and quality of paediatric HIV care and treatment, and PMTCT services.
This role additionally ensures that UNICEF’s contribution to the HIV response is met under commitments made to:
UNDAF SRA 2 Outcome 4: By 2022, all women, men and children in need, including key and priority populations, have equitable access to quality HIV prevention, treatment and care services
UNJP HIV Outcome 1: By 2019, all those in need have equitable access to and utilization of quality HIV prevention at national and county level
KASF Strategic Area Directions: 1, 3 and 4 i.e. Reducing new HIV Infections; Using a Human Rights Based Approach to Facilitate Access to Services; Strengthening Integration of Community and Health Systems.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
The incumbent will work in close collaboration with focal persons from NASCOP, the NHRL and NACC and under the supervision of the Chief HIV and AIDS, UNICEF. She/he will be based in Nairobi with 30-40% travel to selected priority counties. Key duties and tasks include:
Support to programme/project development and planning
Programme management, monitoring and delivery of results
Technical and operational support to programme implementation
Networking and partnership building
Build and sustain effective close working partnerships with relevant sector government counterparts, national stakeholders and global partners/allies/donors/academia through active networking and advocacy to exchange knowledge/expertise, leverage resources/action, build alliances and engage participation of communities in programme design, delivery and demand creation.
Prepare communication and information materials for CO programme advocacy to promote awareness, establish partnership/alliances and enhance resource mobilization for UNICEF HIV programmes/projects.
Participate and/or represent UNICEF in appropriate inter-agency discussions and planning on Paediatric HIV and PMTCT related issues to collaborate with inter-agency partners/colleagues on UNDAF planning and preparation of HIV programmes/projects ensuring organizational position, interests and priorities are fully considered and integrated in the UNDAF process in development planning and agenda setting.
Innovation, knowledge management and capacity building
Apply/introduce innovative approaches, technologies and good practice to build the capacity of partners and stakeholders and to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable programme results for paediatric HIV care and treatment and PMTCT.
Keep abreast, research, benchmark and implement best and cutting-edge practices in paediatric HIV Care and Treatment and PMTCT management and information systems. Institutionalize and share best practices and knowledge learned.
Organize and implement capacity building initiatives to enhance the competencies of clients/stakeholders to promote sustainable results in paediatric HIV and PMTCT related programmes/projects.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
Advanced university degree in public health, paediatric health, family health, laboratory diagnostics and technologies, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, or other health-related sciences is required.
A minimum of 5 years professional experience in paediatric HIV and/or PMTCT, HIV/AIDS, public laboratories service management and/or in relevant areas of health care, health emergency/humanitarian preparedness, preferably in a developing country. Relevant experience in HIV/AIDS programme/project development and management in any UN system agency or organization is an asset
Experience in implementing programs in Liaison with Ministry of Health and knowledge of Kiswahili is desirable.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, participate as an effective team member and follow tasks through to completion.
Capacity to analyze information from multiple sources to gain understanding and set realistic strategies for paediatric HIV and/or PMTCT
Proficient in computer skills including basic analysis skills such Excel and SPSS.
Fluency in oral and written English
