OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The mandate of the Policy and Statutory Meetings Unit within the World Heritage Centre (WHC) includes coordination and development of World Heritage–related statutory processes, policies and activities, across regions and on a global level, as well as providing support to the governing bodies of the World Heritage Convention, including through implementation of respective decisions and resolutions and preparation of documents and meetings, as appropriate.
Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture, the general supervision of the Director of the World Heritage Centre and the direct supervision of the Head of the Policy and Statutory Meetings Unit, the incumbent shall contribute to the effective implementation of the 1972 Convention concerning the protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, through the organization of the sessions of the General Assembly of States Parties to the World Heritage Convention, of the sessions of the World Heritage Committee and its Bureau, and all statutory meetings requested by the World Heritage Committee, as well as their follow-up.
The incumbent will perform the following essential duties:
Contribute to the planning, organization and efficient management of the sessions of the General Assembly of States Parties, of the World Heritage Committee and its Bureau, and other consultative/subsidiary bodies. This will include the drafting and preparation of the agenda, timetable, working and information documents, speeches, briefings, scenarios, and strategic notes as well as the organization of information/orientation meetings and close work with the Chairpersons of the Governing Bodies and the Rapporteur.
Ensure an efficient management of the documentation for the sessions of the World Heritage Committee, its Bureau and the General Assembly of States Parties in order to allow an easy retrieval of and access to the information. This will include the preparation and publication of the Summary Records of the sessions, regular communication to States Parties for the transmission and follow-up of the decisions, drafting of information for the World Heritage Centre web page, circular letters, newsletters and briefings as well as answering to States Parties and UNESCO Sectors requests.
Assist in the planning, preparation, organization and efficient management of the regular meetings between the World Heritage Centre and the Advisory Bodies; prepare the final report of the meetings, consolidate the Action Points agreed upon and ensure their timely distribution to all concerned and follow up on their implementation.
Contribute to the work on the decision-making procedures of the statutory bodies of the World Heritage Convention including consultative/subsidiary bodies established by the World Heritage Committee/General Assembly of States Parties as well as to the follow-up of the reflection on the Governance procedures and working methods of the Governing Bodies of UNESCO and act as an interface with the Governing Bodies of UNESCO, notably by ensuring the coordination of contributions by the World Heritage Centre to the work of the Governing Bodies.
Represent the World Heritage Centre and UNESCO at workshops, meetings and other events, upon request, report to the Director of the World Heritage Centre and prepare the statutory documents derived from these meetings whenever appropriate.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
   Education
Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of Cultural or Natural heritage, Humanities, Development Studies, International Relations or Law, or related area.
   Work Experience
A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible and relevant professional experience in the implementation of the World Heritage Convention and/or in the field of culture.
Relevant experience acquired at the international level.
Experience in designing, managing and implementing programmes and projects related to the field of culture with a focus on cultural and natural heritage.
Experience in the preparation of briefings, drafting high quality, concise documents and reports.
Experience in work on decision-making procedures.
Experience in work in a multicultural environment.
    Skills and competencies
Good knowledge of UNESCO’s programmes in the field of cultural and natural heritage and good knowledge of heritage-related policies, processes and legal instruments.
Familiarity with the work and general functioning of international organizations and/or the UN system.
Strong analytical, organizational and coordination skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Sense of priorities, discretion, rigor and tact.
Diplomatic skills with excellent political awareness and understanding.
Ability to work in a team and maintain effective working relations within a multi-cultural environment.
Excellent IT skills.
    Languages
Excellent knowledge of English or French and good knowledge of the other language.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
    Education
Advanced training in the field related to the 1972 World Heritage Convention.
    Work Experience
Experience in the implementation of another international legal instrument.
    Languages
 Good knowledge of another UNESCO official language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
